I mean, every night was pizza night on the sports desk if Jim asked you to snag an Angee's order. #IYKYK #OTH

That was a long drive from the office, lol. Glad to see that some local institutions still thrive.

We shared our pizza with sports! (Wild that we both wrote about this!)

I had a boss who refused to partake in any of the free food from the news side because he was so angry at the concept of them getting food for election night. I never hesitated because free food.

Death, taxes and the newsroom pizza piece. I do wonder if this animus is because you were working in sports, making less than I made on unemployment at the time, and someone else was getting free food. I'm not saying that the feeling is wrong, mind you.

Also, thanks for the shout.

No doubt that's part of it! I remember back when I was in Olean, the newsroom staff went out to Tito's for lunch the day after the election and my boss there mocked them endlessly for it. I went because as you said, I was making spare change at the time and free food.

@Jared I would have loved to see your food review of the Tito Burger (aka a loose-meat sandwich).

I freely admit to mocking election night pizza during my newspapering days.

It was less about the actual food than it was the attitude that surrounded the food.

The pizza really is just the staple of sports writers and SIDs saying "I guess this story is going to take all night, isn't it?" I don't even eat pizza and I miss the pre- and post-game pizzas after a day in the office when we're scrambling at 10:30 to get a press conference set up for a coach that wasn't happy at all with the day's result.
