About me
Hey there. Sports Media Guy is written by me, Brian Moritz. Hi there!
I’ve been writing this blog, in one form or another, since 2010.
Here’s my “official” bio:
Brian Moritz internationally recognized sports media scholar and researcher whose work examines the societal, organizational and economic models of digital journalism, with a particular focus on sports journalism. His research has been published in Communication & Sport and the International Journal of Communication & Sport, as well as in several collected anthologies, and he is a frequent presenter at national and international conferences.
In 2020-21, he served as chair of the Sports Communication Interest Group with the Association for Education in Journalism & Mass Communication (AEJMC). He is a contributor to the Nieman Lab’s annual prediction package and host of the writing podcast The Other 51.
Before returning to St. Bonaventure, he spent seven years as assistant/associate professor of digital media production and online journalism at SUNY Oswego.
Before teaching, Moritz spent 10 years as an award-winning sports journalist and columnist. He spent five years covering St. Bonaventure athletics for The Times Herald in Olean, N.Y., where his work received multiple New York State Associated Press Association writing awards. In 2004, his coverage of the player eligibility scandal involving the St. Bonaventure men’s basketball team earned him a top-10 national finish in the APSE national writing contest. Moritz also spent five years as a sports reporter at the Press & Sun-Bulletin in Binghamton, N.Y., covering professional baseball and Binghamton University athletics.
Dr. Moritz lives in Fairport with his wife, their daughter, two crazy dogs and an indifferent cat.
